Four Years Later: Reviewing the August 2020 Demonstrations - Berlin 02/13/2025 (by Michael Ballweg)
On February 13, 2025, the review of the August 2020 demonstrations begins. The court hearing at the Administrative Court of Berlin will address:
- The occupation of the stage and the dissolution of the demonstration by the Berlin police on 08/01/2020, - The encirclement on Friedrichstrasse on 08/29/2020, - And the ban on the QUERDENKEN camp from 08/30/2020.
We will start at 9:00 AM with an opening rally in front of the court. The hearing begins at 10:00 AM. Afterwards, we will hold a closing rally to share the results.

Some people used the platform to organize ahead of the storming of the U.S. Capitol in January 2021, and last month Senator Mark Warner sent a letter to Durov urging him to curb Russian information operations on Telegram. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had carried out a similar exercise in 2017 in a matter related to circulation of messages through WhatsApp. Two days after Russia invaded Ukraine, an account on the Telegram messaging platform posing as President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged his armed forces to surrender. Either way, Durov says that he withdrew his resignation but that he was ousted from his company anyway. Subsequently, control of the company was reportedly handed to oligarchs Alisher Usmanov and Igor Sechin, both allegedly close associates of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. At its heart, Telegram is little more than a messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal. But it also offers open channels that enable a single user, or a group of users, to communicate with large numbers in a method similar to a Twitter account. This has proven to be both a blessing and a curse for Telegram and its users, since these channels can be used for both good and ill. Right now, as Wired reports, the app is a key way for Ukrainians to receive updates from the government during the invasion.
