بدون شک تاریخ ویراستاری در ایران بدون کتاب «غلط ننویسیم» ناتمام است. هر کس که اندک آشنایی با این حرفه داشته باشد می داند که این کتاب تا چه حد برای درست نویسی و ویرایش زبانی اهمیت دارد. از زمان انتشار این اثر تا کنون دیدگاه های مختلفی در نفی یا تأیید آن ابراز شده است. زبان شناسان از همان روزهای نخست روی خوش بدان نشان نداده، سخت ترین حمله ها را به این اثر و نویسنده اش ترتیب دادند. آنان در مخالفتی آشکار، این کتاب را «هیاهوی بسیار برای هیچ» دانسته، صراحتاً از نجفی و همفکرانش خواستند «اجازه بدهید غلط بنویسیم».
