Сигнал о поджоге поступил в полицию вечером 24 декабря. Впрочем, поджога как такого не вышло: на стене мечети на улице Пушечной были следы копоти, а рядом валялись несколько разбитых стеклянных бутылок и одна целая. Полицейские проверили камеры видеонаблюдения и заметили двоих неизвестных 20–25 лет, которые перелезли через забор недалеко от места поджога и побежали в сторону ж/д путей. Один из них сильно выделялся: на нём была шапка Санты.
На месте преступления оперативники нашли два готовых «коктейля Молотова»: стеклянные бутылки зелёного цвета объёмом 0,5 литра с жидкостью внутри, — а также след от обуви. По данным «Базы», возбуждено уголовное дело об умышленном уничтожении имущества. Задержать подозреваемых пока не удалось.
