And this seems like an excuse to kick the can further down the road still and not do too much too soon." False news often spreads via public groups, or chats, with potentially fatal effects. The next bit isn’t clear, but Durov reportedly claimed that his resignation, dated March 21st, was an April Fools’ prank. TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych. Telegram was co-founded by Pavel and Nikolai Durov, the brothers who had previously created VKontakte. VK is Russia’s equivalent of Facebook, a social network used for public and private messaging, audio and video sharing as well as online gaming. In January, SimpleWeb reported that VK was Russia’s fourth most-visited website, after Yandex, YouTube and Google’s Russian-language homepage. In 2016, Forbes’ Michael Solomon described Pavel Durov (pictured, below) as the “Mark Zuckerberg of Russia.” Since January 2022, the SC has received a total of 47 complaints and enquiries on illegal investment schemes promoted through Telegram. These fraudulent schemes offer non-existent investment opportunities, promising very attractive and risk-free returns within a short span of time. They commonly offer unrealistic returns of as high as 1,000% within 24 hours or even within a few hours.

十八。連動 Un1t8十八。連動是十八區志同道合的年輕人組成，以往一直以無名身份默默舉辦各區各種大小活動。我們各區一起制作了十八塊連儂布，並於2019年10月20日九龍大遊行和2019年11月2日在愛丁堡人權民主法案集會展示。其後，我們亦再製作一塊屬於香港人的簽名連儂布並在2019年12月29日舉辦了香港人抗爭的日與夜集會，希望回顧過往六個月的抗爭之路。而「十八。連動 」目的是希望連結十八區的人一起為香港出一分力，不再沉默。
