На нем представлена планировка улиц и архитектурный облик города того времени. Многие здания не сохранились до наших дней. Для подготовки макета были использованы карта Барнаула 1861 года и архивные фотоматериалы, сообщили в мэрии города.
Сам макет изготовлен из бронзы, а размещен на постамент из мрамора. Рядом с макетом предусмотрен стенд, на котором отображены здания с их полным наименованием.
Кроме того, в Нагорном парке установлена фотозона с подсветкой. На территории исторической части города размещены фигурки, посвященные истории развития Барнаула.
