Мэру сахалинского Углегорска очень не понравилась статья газеты «Углегорские новости», в которой было рассказано как деятельность компании разрушает местную флору и фауну, а то и вовсе угрожает жизни людей. Сначала представители компании пытались решить проблему «по-хорошему», но издание и главред Зинаида Макарова стояли на своем. Тогда действовать стал уже мэр, лично посетивший редакцию.
Сначала в офисе редакции отключили свет, причем провода были перерезаны, а главреда вызвали к мэру на ковер. Уволив главреда, мэр Дорощук самолично пришёл проверить, что газета не выйдет в свет в сопровождении 10 крепких "мэрских" парней и выгнали оттуда всех журналистов.
Кажется, о проблемах «Восточной горнодобывающей компании» теперь узнают чуть больше людей, чем читали углегорскую газету.

Official government accounts have also spread fake fact checks. An official Twitter account for the Russia diplomatic mission in Geneva shared a fake debunking video claiming without evidence that "Western and Ukrainian media are creating thousands of fake news on Russia every day." The video, which has amassed almost 30,000 views, offered a "how-to" spot misinformation.
