Пролог Евангелия от Марка свидетельствует о связи Иисуса с Богом Израиля. В первом же стихе цитируется два текста из ВЗ, в которых сказано о YHWH, но в Евангелии эти стихи относятся к Иисусу. В более значимом [из них] (Ис 40:3), к Иисусу применяется титул κγριος, который являлся заменой божественного имени.

Учитывая, какое значение в античности придавалось началу истории, это указывает кем является Иисус на протяжении всего Евангелия.

Пролог подтверждает эту точку зрения, когда слова Иоанна Крестителя о Грядущем сами по себе указывают на пришествие Бога.

Фактически, применение Марком личного имени Бога YHWH к Иисусу может быть не менее заметным, чем утверждение Иоанна о том, что «Слово было Бог».
