Эта авиабомба является «более мощной версией B61-12, предоставляющая президенту США дополнительные возможности для поражения более сложных и крупных военных целей», отмечается в информации Пентагона.
Мощность бомбы в ядерном исполнении достигает 360 килотонн.
Работы по модификации арсенала этих авиабомб продолжатся в 2025 году в центре национальной безопасности Y-12 в Ок-Ридж (штат Теннесси).
