Получать электричество раньше позволяли дизельные генераторы, но от них решили отказаться, чтобы не загрязнять особо охраняемую природную территорию. На последнем кордоне обновили систему энергоснабжения и теперь он обеспечен электричеством за счет преобразования солнечной энергии.
Главную базу и все кордоны, за исключением Голой, также обустроили солнечными панелями. Теперь Саяно-Шушенский заповедник полностью питается от энергии солнца.
