На диалекте руска рома (как в других, не знаю) поздняя ночь будет рат бари, буквально — большая ночь, словно, пока она длится, н о ч ь в ы р а с т а е т. И мне в этих словах сквозит что-то из стихов Лорки и Хименеса в переводах Гелескула, прекраснейшего.
А вот в русском языке, получается, мы в н о ч ь п о г р у ж а е м с я, как в реку и, кто знает, не можем ли мы в ней утонуть, если ночь окажется особенно глубока.
Люблю крутить стёртую метафорику так и сяк.
И откуда-то из детства машут нам и этим метафорам медвежонок Умка и Ёжик-в-тумане.
