Если в русском слово жрать из-за своей грубости мне тяжело применять не только к людям, но и к зверям, то в немецком именно так и называется процесс приёма пищи у зверей.
essen / aß / gegessen - есть, кушать, питаться fressen / fraß / gefressen - жрать, есть
Конечно, по отношению к людям слово fressen может тоже применяться, но имеет в этом случае очень негативную окраску. Как и в русском.
