الذات في عرف أهل العلم هي عين الشيء فذات الله هي نفس الله ﷻ فأهل السنة يقولون الله مستو على العرش بذاته لأن الجهمية يقولون هو مستو على العرش ولكن على سبيل المجاز فعندما نقول بذاته أي هو بنفسه فوق العرش سبحانه وتعالى .
قال الإمام ابن القيم : الْجَهْمِيَّةَ لَمَّا قَالُوا إِنَّ الِاسْتِوَاءَ مَجَازٌ صَرَّحَ أَهْلُ السُّنَّةِ بِأَنَّهُ مُسْتَوٍ بِذَاتِهِ عَلَى عَرْشِهِ .
وكذلك أهل العلم لما قالوا هو فوق العرش بحد ، ذكروا الحد لأن الجهمية يقولون هو في كل مكان .
