Выяснилось, что потребление таких напитков ежегодно способствует появлению 1,2 миллиона новых случаев заболеваний сердечно-сосудистой системы и 2,2 миллиона новых случаев развития диабета 2 типа. Каждый год 80 тысяч человек умирают из-за диабета, а 258 тысяч летальных исходов связаны с сердечно-сосудистыми заболеваниями.
В развивающихся странах эта проблема стоит особенно остро, поскольку там сладкие напитки широко рекламируются. В Мексике почти 30% всех новых случаев заболевания диабетом связаны с потреблением сладких напитков, а в Колумбии этот показатель еще хуже — 50%.
