В Красной Армии – с 1918 года. В годы Гражданской войны сражался с войсками А.В. Колчака, атамана Г.М. Семенова и японскими оккупантами. После войны – на командных должностях. В 1937-1938 годах командовал особой группой войск, направленной в Монголию для прикрытия ее границ от нападения японцев. В 1940-1941 годах – командующий войсками ЗабВО и СКВО. Во время Великой Отечественной войны командовал 19-й армией и войсками ряда фронтов. На заключительном этапе командовал 1-м Украинским фронтом, участвовавшим в Силезской и Берлинской операциях, спасении г. Праги. После войны – главнокомандующий Центральной группой советских войск. В 1946-1948 годах – главнокомандующий Сухопутными войсками – 1-й зам. министра обороны, с 1950 года – главный инспектор Советской Армии – зам. министра обороны.

He urged users to be mistrustful of the things shared on Channels, and initially threatened to block the feature in the countries involved for the length of the war, saying that he didn’t want Telegram to be used to aggravate conflict or incite ethnic hatred. He did, however, walk back this plan when it became clear that they had also become a vital communications tool for Ukrainian officials and citizens to help coordinate their resistance and evacuations. "There are a lot of things that Telegram could have been doing this whole time. And they know exactly what they are and they've chosen not to do them. That's why I don't trust them," she said.
