Новый закон был принят по итогам референдума 2021 года, на котором его поддержали 51,2% избирателей.
Этот шаг ставит Швейцарию в один ряд с Францией, Австрией, Бельгией и Данией, которые ввели аналогичные запреты.
Франция ввела так называемый «запрет на ношение паранджи» в 2011 году. Исключения для швейцарцев включают ношение вуалей, масок и шарфов в религиозных местах, во время карнавалов и для защиты от холодной погоды.
