Причиной возмущения красноярцев стала видеозапись интервью Спицына, в котором он говорит, что в романе «Прокляты и убиты» автор искажает действительность военных лет. Спицын заявил, что Астафьев написал эту книгу по заказу «Запада», но его «кинули» и назвал писателя «гнидой» и «подонком».
В заявлении депутатов говорится, что в их адрес поступило множество звонков и обращений в социальных сетях — люди шокированы и тоном высказываний, и их содержанием.
