The 2024 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup ‘Rookie of The Year’ and ‘People’s Choice Award’ winner, has spoken of his shock omission from the Hunters train-and-trial squad, which has sparked debate over social media.

Evi was not included in the Hunters 41-man squad for preseason despite having a breakout year in his maiden season in the PNG National Rugby League Competition.

PNG Hunters chief executive officer Scott Barker has clarified Hunter's stance on the omission of Digicel ExxonMobil Cup rising star Bartholomew Evi.

Barker said the Central Dabaris speedster was initially approached by Hunters to join the pre-season squad after a vigorous maiden season in the national rugby league competition.

However, Evi was dropped from the 41-man training group after he failed to respond to the offer on time.

“He was offered a spot in the pre-season training squad but did not respond to that offer in a timely manner,” Barker told NBC News.
