Привычный нам формат газеты – это издание, где текста больше, чем фотографий, которые служат лишь иллюстрациями. Но в редких случаях бывает наоборот.

Фотогазета – жанр печатной прессы, где основную информационную нагрузку несут фотографии, а из текста только подписи к ним.

В СССР предпринималось несколько попыток издавать фотогазеты. Самая известные из них – это издание 1927 года, которое сохранилось в единственном экземпляре, а также несколько фотогазет времен Великой отечественной войны. Есть еще экземпляры дореволюционной «Петербургской газеты» в этом формате.

Но жанр так и не прижился. Как только в стране повсеместно распространилось среднее образование, фотогазеты потеряли свою актуальность. Все-таки в прессе важна, прежде всего, текстовая составляющая.
