3 февраля 2018 года в неравном бою с боевиками террористических группировок недалеко от города Саракиб в сирийской провинции Идлиб погиб российский летчик Роман Филипов.
Террористы при помощи ПЗРК сбили штурмовик Су-25СМ под управлением майора Филипова в небе, однако летчик смог катапультироваться.
На земле он вступил в бой с превосходящими силами противника. Его последними словами стала фраза, которая теперь знаменита на весь мир:
«Это вам за пацанов!»
Не желая сдаваться в плен, Филипов совершил самоподрыв, уничтожив при этом нескольких боевиков.
Указом президента России Владимира Путина летчику было посмертно присвоено звание Героя России.
В марте 2020 года, после освобождения Саракиба, удалось обнаружить точное место гибели Романа Филипова.
