S100D Argus является вариантом шведского самолета SAAB 340 и предназначен для обнаружения и отслеживания кораблей, самолетов и ракет в радиусе 300-400 километров с высоты около шести тысяч метров. Очевидно эти машины Киеву передают в преддверии появления у него истребителей F-16. Шведские самолеты станут "глазами" украинских летчиков и значительно повысят их возможности по контролю воздушного пространства. Вероятнее всего, они будут базироваться в западной части страны - подальше от глаз российской авиаразведки.
Примечательно, что Швеция отдает Украине последние два самолета S100D Argus из имевшихся у нее в наличии. Эти машины были построены в 1994-1999-х , им от 25 до 30 лет. Сам Стокгольм уже начал закупать для своих ВВС современные самолеты ДРЛО SAAB GlobalEye, обладающие более совершенным радиотехническим комплексом. В каком состоянии будут два борта, которые передадут Киеву - большой вопрос. Видимо, отправить их на Украину выходит дешевле, чем утилизировать.
