С 1913 г. он назначается первым настоятелем церкви Феодоровской иконы Божией Матери в память 300-летия Дома Романовых в г. Царское Село под С.-Петербургом, а в 1914 г. стал духовником Царской семьи.
При отправке Царской семьи в Сибирь о. Александр служил Им напутственный молебен. Имя его неоднократно упоминается в письмах Царственных мучеников из заточения. Государыня называет его «наш отец Александр», а дети всегда передают ему привет.
В сентябре 1918 г. тяжело больной прот. Александр был расстрелян.
