🇧🇷 Far-right former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has called for nationwide protests on March 16th 2025, against the government of leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in a video released on his social media.
He is calling for “Lula out in 2026” and is demanding amnesty for those who stormed Brazilian federal government buildings on January 8th, 2023, in scenes eerily reminiscent of the January 6th 2021 capitol attack in the United States.
Bolsonaro is currently ineligible for office until 2030 due to his involvement in the January 8th coup attempt, but there has been a push by right wing political forces to allow him to run for president in 2026.
Jair Bolsonaro has said that he believes US President Donald Trump will pressure the Brazilian government to make him eligible, and his son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, just spent the last week meeting with Republican officials in the USA.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel 🇺🇸 Conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel said just recently he was hoping conservative third-party groups would start buying up TV time in the state "very soon."
Ask and you shall receive.
Records show Building America's Future, an Elon Musk-backed dark money group, has begun buying TV time in Wisconsin on Monday. The ads are expected to be in support of conservative Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel, who is running against liberal Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford in the high-stakes April 1 election.
Records show the conservative nonprofit has already purchased more than $670,000 of air time for the next two weeks on TV stations throughout the state. That does not include all Wisconsin channels, so the figure is likely to rise.

From the Atlantic: Young people growing up during COVID's health, political, and economic crises have seen a large shift to the right across the developed world.
In the US 🇺🇸 between 2020 and 2024, voters under 30 (and esp young men) shifted ~20 points toward the GOP. In Germany 🇩🇪, France 🇫🇷, Portugal 🇵🇹, Finland 🇫🇮, and beyond, young voters seem to be swinging toward anti-establishment far-right parties in numbers exceeding older voters.
While COVID cannot fully explain the shift, it was clearly a major contributing factor. The pandemic era didn't just demolish faith in scientific and political elites. It also strongly increased alone time, sending young men and women in highly gendered social-media spaces, where the youngest men in particular seem to have become significantly more anti-feminist and open to right-wing influencers and parties.
