Cycladic art is iconic. Made between 3200-1100 BC in the Aegean, the figurines are sought after by museums and collectors for their striking, modernist appearance
How dramatic is this? I've cleaned-up this astounding glass plate photograph, which looks like a painting, taken in the Domaine De Pixérécourt in Malzéville, France, about 116 years ago. It's by one of my personal favourite proponents of the autochrome art, Julien Gérardin. This photo was taken in colour and isn't colourised.
