27 января 1945 года войска 1-го Украинского фронта под командованием маршала Советского Союза Ивана Степановича Конева освободили узников нацистского лагеря Освенцим. Их на тот момент было всего семь с половиной тысяч – людей, уцелевших в безжалостной машине смерти.
В 1996 году правительство ФРГ объявило день освобождения Освенцима, 27 января, официальным днём памяти жертв Холокоста. В ноябре 2005 года Всемирным днем памяти жертв Холокоста объявила этот день и Организация Объединённых Наций.

In a message on his Telegram channel recently recounting the episode, Durov wrote: "I lost my company and my home, but would do it again – without hesitation." DFR Lab sent the image through Microsoft Azure's Face Verification program and found that it was "highly unlikely" that the person in the second photo was the same as the first woman. The fact-checker Logically AI also found the claim to be false. The woman, Olena Kurilo, was also captured in a video after the airstrike and shown to have the injuries. Soloviev also promoted the channel in a post he shared on his own Telegram, which has 580,000 followers. The post recommended his viewers subscribe to "War on Fakes" in a time of fake news. On Feb. 27, however, he admitted from his Russian-language account that "Telegram channels are increasingly becoming a source of unverified information related to Ukrainian events." The next bit isn’t clear, but Durov reportedly claimed that his resignation, dated March 21st, was an April Fools’ prank. TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych.
