В СМИ пишут, что он был консулом России в Триполи в те годы. Европейские консульства нередко нанимали местных христиан. Помимо суннитов в городе исторически проживает заметное христианское меньшинство, в основном — православные. С ростом города туда стали приезжать католики-марониты из близлежащих районов Горного Ливана, а также сунниты (из окрестностей) и алавиты (из области Аккар и Сирии).
В ХХ столетии дворец Науфаля отошёл муниципалитету, и сейчас там расположен Культурный центр имени Рашида Карами – влиятельного политика из Триполи, который дольше всех в истории Ливана был премьер-министром (с перерывами в 1950-80-х;убит в 1987). Его племянник Фейсал Карами (союзник Хезболлы)сейчас заседает в парламенте.

Its user base isn’t as vast as WhatsApp’s, and its broadcast platform is a fraction the size of Twitter, but it’s nonetheless showing its use. While Telegram has been embroiled in controversy for much of its life, it has become a vital source of communication during the invasion of Ukraine.
