After Mabo Bryan Keon-Cohen went on a bit of a crusade against the Catholic Church.
Coinciding with the 2013 Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Child Abuse he and another Jew Joseph Poznanski set up COIN, an organisation explicitly targeting the Catholic Church with accusations of non-cooperation and demands for further investigation.
The scope of the inquiry also included complaints of abuse in the Jewish community (made by Avi Yemini's brother) but Keon-Cohen wasn't interested in that he went after the religion his has repeatedly tried to kill off.
He subsequently made accusations like the "Catholic Church is like the Mafia", George Pell was just engaging in damage control and that confession must be subject to mandatory reporting.
As a result a controversial law breaking the seal of confession passed despite the inquiry's report declining to recommend it.
This also coincided with "Operation Tethering" the 2013 Vic Pol investigation into George Pell begun before any complaints had even been made.
