В заявлении сказано, что в связи с праздником Крещения амнистию получили 613 осужденных, у которых теперь есть возможность «вернуться к своим семьям и снова стать полноправными членами общества».
Кавелашвили был избран президентом Грузии 14 декабря. Кандидат от правящей партии «Грузинская мечта» набрал 224 голоса из 300, отмечали в ЦИК. Кандидатуру впервые в стране утвердила коллегия из 300 выборщиков, а не граждане.
