Член фракции социал-демократов Модеста Петраускайте зарегистрировала в Сейме предложение о введении льготного 9% НДС на продукты первой необходимости, список которых устанавливало бы правительство.
В пояснении к предложенному закону об НДС сказано, что в таком случае цены на продукты могли бы снизится на 5–8%.
Сказано также, что цены на продукты в Литве, по сравнению с ценами в других странах ЕС, „очень высокие, а покупательная способность людей (…) намного ниже“.
Предлагается также ввести льготный НДС в размере 9% на услуги общепита, за исключением алкогольных напитков. В документе признают, что после введения льготного НДС, в бюджет поступит меньше средств, но отмечают, что их недостаток восполнится за счет „роста потребления“.
