Мемориал планируют поставить на проспекте Лаврентьева, рядом со зданием Института вычислительной математики и математической геофизики. Там также хотят благоустроить сквер.
Гурий Марчук возглавил Вычислительной центр СО АН СССР в 1964 году. В 1980 году переехал Москву и с 1986 по 1991 году возглавлял Академию наук СССР.
