27 февраля 1943 года военнослужащие 596-го гренадерского полка 327-й пехотной дивизии нацистской Германии под командованием полковника Ф.А. Вайнкнехта прибыли в Суджанский район и разместились в населенных пунктах: Ивница, Исаковка, Генераловка, Машкино. Днем 28 февраля 1943 года по приказу Вайнкнехта подчиненные ему солдаты учинили зверскую расправу над мирными советскими гражданами.
Всего в период с 28 февраля по 1 марта 1943 года по приказу Вайнкнехта его солдатами было расстреляно и сожжено 183 мирных жителя: 106 мужчин, 46 женщин и 31 ребенок.
Ф.А. Вайнкнехт был взят в плен советскими войсками 29 августа 1944 года в ходе Ясско-Кишиневской операции. В ходе следствия он частично признался в преступлениях, которые были совершены личным составом его полка.
