Причиной гибели "Ашамбы" стала потеря остойчивости, а способствовал этому холодный северный ветер или, как его называют, бора. Его порывы могут достигать 30-35 м/с и из-за него все поверхности рядом с побережьем покрываются толстой коркой льда.

Очевидно, что поднять корабль будет не очень сложно после того как погода улучшится. Однако, в оперштабе Краснодарского края говорят, что есть риск попадания в воду нефтепродуктов – на борту находилось около 200 литров дизельного топлива.
