В «День политического заключенного», впервые учрежденного 30 октября 1974 года, главным жестом солидарности сталa однодневная голодовка, которую вместе с политзеками держали все желающие. Нынешний «День политического заключенного» — акция-преемник «Возвращения имен» ликвидированного «Мемориала. В это 30 октября политзаключенные также предлагают присоединиться к отказу от пищи.
«Диктаторы и тираны планеты не устают подчеркивать близость друг к другу. Будет правильно и политзекам всех стран проявить солидарность. Поэтому мы считаем день политзаключённого международным днем», — сказано в письме.
Коллективное письмо подписали Алексей Навальный, Владимир Кара-Мурза, Илья Яшин, Лилия Чанышева, Владимир Останин и Даниэль Холодный. Голодовку проведут все подписавшиеся.
