В начале XX века встал вопрос о необходимости реконструкции Московского вокзала в Санкт-Петербурге. За 50 лет своего существования вокзал устарел и перестал отвечать требованиям времени.

На конкурс были представлены следующие проекты:

1. «Скалы и сосны» Лишневского, выполненный в стиле северного модерна, занял второе место.
2. «Вулкан» Косякова, Ламагина и Подбереского, выполненный в стиле ампир, также получил вторую премию.
3. «Гранит» Мунца и Беляева, выполненный в стиле ар-деко, занял третье место.
4. Проект «Я» Перетятковича был признан лучшим и занял первое место.
