«Если у нас нет чего-то в запасах США, тогда мы идем по пути закупок, чтобы обеспечить приобретение того, что необходимо Украине. Именно так мы и сделаем в случае с Abrams», - сказал источник издания.
Как пишет газета, решение закупить танки именно сейчас даст возможность украинским боевикам обучиться их управлению. Когда их изготовят и отправлять на Украину, они уже смогут их использовать. На передачу M1 Abrams украинским военным уйдут месяцы.
В среду власти США объявили о намерении передать Киеву 31 танк M1 Abrams для формирования батальона. В администрации Байдена также сообщили, что направят Украине топливо для газотурбинных двигателей этих танков и 8 бронированных гусеничных машин, предназначенных для ремонта и эвакуации техники в полевых условиях.
