10 января США ввели блокирующие санкции против двух крупнейших экспортеров нефти в РФ - "Газпром нефти" и "Сургутнефтегаза". С ними, а также с десятками других компаний теперь запрещено иметь финансовые отношения с использованием доллара или американской финансовой системы. Всего под ограничениями теперь находятся 183 танкера под флагами разных стран - они, предположительно, перевозили нефть РФ в нарушение западных санкций.

TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych.
