Judging by some of the exhibits at Singapore’s Red Dot Design Museum, designers were still reinventing the bicycle in 2024 and there were a few successful stories. A team of designers led by Colin Herperger, having spent nearly a decade attempting to come up with a cycle helmet “that could fold down like a piece of origami and fit in your pocket”, finally released the aH-1 helmet that earned them the “Best of the Best” Red Dot Design award and several other industry prizes. Composed of eleven interconnected nylon chambers reinforced with polymer ribs, ah-1 is an inflatable helmet that deflates to 10% of its inflated size and takes about thirty seconds to inflate thanks to a portable electric pump, which comes with the helmet and is Presta-valve-compatible, so cyclists can use it for the tires as well (or if the pump goes dead, the helmet can be inflated with a conventional pump).

aH-1 is already commercially available from Ventete that claims that the helmet is just as safe as traditional foam-filled helmets and, in a third-party study, even showed a 44% reduction in overall linear risk compared to the best conventional helmets tested, so aH-1’s ease of use and impressive collapsibility were not won at the expense of safety. What’s more, aH-1’s airflow performance is allegedly better than that of traditional helmets and matches the effect of riding bare-headed.

Additionally, investors are often instructed to deposit monies into personal bank accounts of individuals who claim to represent a legitimate entity, and/or into an unrelated corporate account. To lend credence and to lure unsuspecting victims, perpetrators usually claim that their entity and/or the investment schemes are approved by financial authorities. If you initiate a Secret Chat, however, then these communications are end-to-end encrypted and are tied to the device you are using. That means it’s less convenient to access them across multiple platforms, but you are at far less risk of snooping. Back in the day, Secret Chats received some praise from the EFF, but the fact that its standard system isn’t as secure earned it some criticism. If you’re looking for something that is considered more reliable by privacy advocates, then Signal is the EFF’s preferred platform, although that too is not without some caveats. One thing that Telegram now offers to all users is the ability to “disappear” messages or set remote deletion deadlines. That enables users to have much more control over how long people can access what you’re sending them. Given that Russian law enforcement officials are reportedly (via Insider) stopping people in the street and demanding to read their text messages, this could be vital to protect individuals from reprisals. In view of this, the regulator has cautioned investors not to rely on such investment tips / advice received through social media platforms. It has also said investors should exercise utmost caution while taking investment decisions while dealing in the securities market. Telegram has gained a reputation as the “secure” communications app in the post-Soviet states, but whenever you make choices about your digital security, it’s important to start by asking yourself, “What exactly am I securing? And who am I securing it from?” These questions should inform your decisions about whether you are using the right tool or platform for your digital security needs. Telegram is certainly not the most secure messaging app on the market right now. Its security model requires users to place a great deal of trust in Telegram’s ability to protect user data. For some users, this may be good enough for now. For others, it may be wiser to move to a different platform for certain kinds of high-risk communications.
