US Ends Support for F-16s Transferred to Ukraine - Forbes
According to Forbes, the Trump administration has halted support for F-16 fighter jets transferred to Ukraine, including vital electronic warfare components.
According to analysts, Europe still provides support capabilities to keep the F-16s in the air. The main concern is said to be the repair and maintenance of the electronic warfare systems provided by the US for the F16 fighter jets.
Before being sent to Ukraine, the F-16 fighters were equipped with electronic warfare systems, including AN/ALQ-131 pods and PIDS+ and ECIPS+ systems. The cessation of supplies of spare parts and software for these systems significantly reduces the combat capabilities of Ukrainian aircraft, Forbes analysts claim.
In response to this situation, Ukraine is believed to be looking for alternative solutions. France has expressed its readiness to provide Dassault Mirage 2000 fighters, equipped with their own electronic warfare systems that do not depend on American support. These aircraft can partially compensate for the loss of combat capabilities of the F-16.
Earlier, in August 2024, the White House refused to send American specialists to service F-16s in Ukraine for security reasons, fearing a possible escalation of the conflict.
