Всего в СССР планировали создать 5 кораблей "Буран", полностью собрали только 2. Третий должен был отправиться в космос в 1994 году и на момент закрытия программы был готов на 50%.
Технические решения, полученные при его разработке, продолжают использоваться российскими и зарубежными инженерами.

He did, however, walk back this plan when it became clear that they had also become a vital communications tool for Ukrainian officials and citizens to help coordinate their resistance and evacuations.
