Уже проведены все пробные пуски главных двигателей, а также протестированы основные механизмы судна. В настоящее время идет постепенное включение пультов судовождения в рулевой рубке. Кроме того, проводится окраска части корпуса снаружи и установка электрического насыщения.
Корабль «Александр Деев» имеет три грузовые палубы. Они вмещают 30 железнодорожных вагонов, 48 грузовых автопоездов и 28 легковых автомобилей. Что касается пассажировместимости, то она составляет 150 человек.
Паром был создан на территории Владивостока для обеспечения бесперебойного транспортного снабжения Сахалина.
