У Астольфа де Кюстина, в его книге "Россия в 1839 году" есть очень любопытная цитата про собор Василия Блаженного, которую очень любят в путеводителях. В ней он восхищается прекрасным видом собора и его диковинной архитектурой. Правда, в путеводителях она всегда публикуется в урезанном виде. Почему-то всегда пропадает комментарий:

«Нет сомнения, что страна, где подобное здание предназначено для молитвы, — не Европа, это Индия, Персия, Китай, и люди, которые приходят поклониться Богу в эту конфетную коробку, — не христиане!»

В то же время католические соборы:

Хотя, возможно, гомосексуалиста Кюстина как раз и расстроило отсутствие на стенах собора жоп и писек
