Причиной вспышки заболевания называют дикую водоплавающую птицу. Птица, яйца и ранее заготовленное мясо птицы изымается из цехов и уничтожается путем сжигания.
Птичий грипп типа "А" (подтип H5) также выявлен на птицефабрике "Островная" в Южно-Сахалинске.
Птицефабрика принадлежит Минимущества Сахалинской области и является крупнейшим производителем.
Птичий грипп обнаружен на бройлерной площадке, Губернатор Валерий Лимаренко подписал указ о введении с 3 ноября карантина по высокопатогенному гриппу птицы в Южно-Сахалинске и Анивском районе (села Троицкое и Новотроицкое).
