У «Библиороссики» намедни вышел перевод замечательной монографии Ханса Хуммера 'Politics and Power in Early Medieval Europe: Alsace and the Frankish Realm, 600-1000' (2005). Впервые с ней познакомился ещё несколько лет назад, поэтому был приятно удивлён.
Помимо великолепного изложения материала, демонстрирующего взаимосвязи между королевским правлением и локальными сетями власти, особенно ценно обширное теоретическое введение. Автор отдельно останавливается на "позднеантичной" периодизации, признавая VII в. в качестве условной границы (охватывая, таким образом, и меровингскую Позднюю Древность), и пытается обосновать, почему «раннесредневековый период не должен быть просто удобным пространством для описания остатков умирающего римского порядка или возникновения монархического правления в XII в.»
