Инициатива Calexit, получившая разрешение на сбор подписей у граждан, намерена поставить перед калифорнийцами вопрос: хотят ли они, чтобы "золотой штат" вышел из состава США. Если подписи будут собраны, пишет The New York Post, предлагаемая мера будет вынесена на голосование в 2028 году со следующей формулировкой: "Должна ли Калифорния выйти из состава США и стать свободной и независимой страной?"
Для самого выхода из США не менее половины зарегистрированных избирателей штата должны принять участие в этом голосовании, и не менее 55% должны поддержать это.
При этом считается, что самый сепаратистский штат США - Аляска. Более 63% населения которого выступают за независимость.
