Авторы проводили полногеномный поиск ассоциаций (GWAS) - метод исследования генома группы людей, позволяющий выявить генетические вариации, связанные с определёнными чертами или расстройствами. Анализировали геном людей, у которых звук жевания вызывает интенсивную ярость.
Показано: мизофония имеет генетическую основу. Есть связь между мизофонией и психическими расстройствами в т.ч. тревожностью, ПТСР, БДР. Есть связь с личностными чертами - невротизмом, раздражительностью, беспокойством. Есть обратная связь между мизофонией и расстройствами аутистического спектра (однако мизофония бывает при РАС). Также не обнаружено связи с потерей слуха. По всей видимости, мизофония генетически ближе к психическим расстройствам.
