It’s quite hot these days in St. Petersburg and we’re thus continuing with our summer tradition of sharing outdoor chaises with you. Today’s issue of Sunday Postmodernism features two remarkable pieces designed by Maarten van Severen, an outstanding Belgian architect. Having studied architecture at the Royal School of Fine Arts in Ghent, van Severen soon decided to switch to furniture designs and, starting from 1986, produced quite a number of domestic furnishings, often working alongside Rem Koolhaas as an interior designer, guided by his belief that ‘Furniture is what makes the space liveable’.

LIke many other furniture designs by van Severen, the MVS chaise created in 2000 for Vitra showcases the architect’s knowledge of the staples of modernism. We simply cannot unsee the outlines of the legendary chaises by Charlotte Perriand. Unlike the LC4 lounger, the MVS enables the seater to stay in touch with the ground or float above it simply by shifting his/her weight.

The regulator said it has been undertaking several campaigns to educate the investors to be vigilant while taking investment decisions based on stock tips. Just days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Durov wrote that Telegram was "increasingly becoming a source of unverified information," and he worried about the app being used to "incite ethnic hatred." At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. The SC urges the public to refer to the SC’s I nvestor Alert List before investing. The list contains details of unauthorised websites, investment products, companies and individuals. Members of the public who suspect that they have been approached by unauthorised firms or individuals offering schemes that promise unrealistic returns Telegram has gained a reputation as the “secure” communications app in the post-Soviet states, but whenever you make choices about your digital security, it’s important to start by asking yourself, “What exactly am I securing? And who am I securing it from?” These questions should inform your decisions about whether you are using the right tool or platform for your digital security needs. Telegram is certainly not the most secure messaging app on the market right now. Its security model requires users to place a great deal of trust in Telegram’s ability to protect user data. For some users, this may be good enough for now. For others, it may be wiser to move to a different platform for certain kinds of high-risk communications.
