С 2014 года он живет в Черногории, где открыл арт-резиденцию. 30 декабря 2021 года Минюст России признал его иностранным агентом и внес его в реестр СМИ-иноагентов. После этого суд признавал его виновным в нарушении порядка деятельности иноагента - свои посты в мессенджере он публиковал без соответствующей плашки.

Emerson Brooking, a disinformation expert at the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab, said: "Back in the Wild West period of content moderation, like 2014 or 2015, maybe they could have gotten away with it, but it stands in marked contrast with how other companies run themselves today."
