Ранее, 17 января в полицию Калининского района с заявлением обратился 74-летний житель, сообщивший, что ему по телефону звонили неизвестные и сообщали о том, что с его счёта, якобы, происходит финансирование противоправной деятельности, и для предотвращения негативных последствий необходимо собрать все сбережения и передать их курьеру. Следуя указанием звонивших, пенсионер продал свою квартиру за 5 970 000 рублей, снял 1 840 000 рублей со своего счета, взял кредиты на общую сумму 2 613 000 и передал все эти суммы трем курьерам. Общая сумма ущерба 10 423 000 рублей.
Кроме того, 17 января 2025 года в этот же отдел полиции обратилась 75-летняя пенсионерка, проживающая в доме 115 по Светлановскому проспекту, с заявлением о том, что ей позвонили неизвестные, и убедили передать курьеру 400 000 рублей.
