Поскольку на печатных машинках не было специальных шрифтов, чтобы получился нивхский шрифт, тексты печатались на кириллице, а потом ручкой дорисовывались все хвостики и пояски, ставились апострофы. Сначала не было заголовочных шрифтов, а сам текст набирали на линотипе в Охинской типографии. И Фёдор Мыгун рисовал все заголовки от руки, затем их отливали на цинкографе.
В те времена сотрудники ездили в командировки по всему Охинскому району, в соседние районы и даже в Николаевский район Хабаровского края. Из командировок привозили материалы о рыбаках, рыбообработчиках, о педагогах и о самых разных людях.
