🎖 As part of the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, diplomats from the Embassy of Russia in the United States and officers from the Military Attaché Office together with pupils from the Embassy's school visited veterans living in Washington and its suburbs. They congratulated them on the upcoming anniversary date. On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin they presented medals “80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”.
🥇 The diplomats expressed words of deep gratitude to the generation of the Victors. They noted that their steel “hardening”, courage and selflessness helped our country to cope with inhuman trials. They emphasized that during the hardest war years the Soviet people not only defended their homeland, but also liberated Europe from Hitler's invaders. The unbroken spirit of the defenders of the Fatherland is a moral and ethical guideline for all generations of people in Russia.
🔹In the coming days we will continue the important mission of presenting medals.
🥇We bow to the generation of the Heroes! We thank the veterans for their hospitality, wishing them good health and prosperity! No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!

Oleksandra Matviichuk, a Kyiv-based lawyer and head of the Center for Civil Liberties, called Durov’s position "very weak," and urged concrete improvements. On Feb. 27, however, he admitted from his Russian-language account that "Telegram channels are increasingly becoming a source of unverified information related to Ukrainian events." On December 23rd, 2020, Pavel Durov posted to his channel that the company would need to start generating revenue. In early 2021, he added that any advertising on the platform would not use user data for targeting, and that it would be focused on “large one-to-many channels.” He pledged that ads would be “non-intrusive” and that most users would simply not notice any change. Right now the digital security needs of Russians and Ukrainians are very different, and they lead to very different caveats about how to mitigate the risks associated with using Telegram. For Ukrainians in Ukraine, whose physical safety is at risk because they are in a war zone, digital security is probably not their highest priority. They may value access to news and communication with their loved ones over making sure that all of their communications are encrypted in such a manner that they are indecipherable to Telegram, its employees, or governments with court orders. The picture was mixed overseas. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 1.6%, under pressure from U.S. regulatory scrutiny on New York-listed Chinese companies. Stocks were more buoyant in Europe, where Frankfurt’s DAX surged 1.4%.
