قالَ الفضيل بن عياض: «عليكُم بمُداومةِ الشُّكرِ على النِّعَم، فقلَّ نعمةٍ زالت عن قومٍ فعادت إليهِم».
وكان الحَسنُ يَقُولُ في مَوعِظَتِهِ: «المُبادَرة المُبادَرة! فإنَّما هي الأنفاس، لو حُبِسَت انقطعَت عنكم أعمالُكم التي تتقرَّبون بها إلى ﷲ -عزَّ وجلَّ-، رحمَ اللّٰهُ امرأً نظرَ إلى نفسِه، وبكى على عددِ ذنوبِه، ثمَّ قرأ هذه الآية: ﴿إِنَّمَا نَعُدُّ لَهُم عَدًّا﴾ يعني: الأنفاس، آخِرُ العددِ خروجُ نفسِك، آخِرُ العددِ فراقُ أهلِك، آخِرُ العددِ دخولُك في قبرِك!».
